UNSURE ON HOW TO   GET STARTED, TEACHING   MENOPAUSE?

  • Feeling overwhelmed by the complexity of menopause and all the variances of experience?

  • Wondering how to tailor lessons, according to each key stage and what aspects to highlight?

  • How do you engage and encourage empathy with pupils in a topic that might feel irrelevant to them?

  • Not sure how to tie it into the RSHE Curriculum?

  • Wishing you had a ready-to-use template to hand?

Menopause lessons

Teaching menopause is not easy.  It's a complex, biological event but also a transition that impacts individuals, their families, colleagues, and communities.

Since menopause was introduced into the RSHE curriculum in 2019, there's been little guidance on how to teach it in positive ways that engage students and encourage them to develop ally-ship and support.

That's why we've partnered with the Wellbeing Team at Caterham School, well-respected for their progressive PSHE programmes to ensure content is perfectly tailored to pupils at different stages of cognitive development, as well as services to support staff and parents.

TESTIMONIALS

As a guy, it’s not something I’m going to experience directly but it’s made me more empathetic, to have a better understanding of others.

My mum has always been very scared of HRT and is having a tough time of it. After the workshop, I was able to tell her about what I learned, and she has now made an appointment to discuss options with her doctor.

I really enjoyed the lesson because I saw lots of other ways menopause is experienced by people. The media only portrays one aspect, but it can happen at any age. That was a real eye opener for me!

A lot of people think menopause happens and then it’s done but the workshop explained that it’s not like that. It’s more of a progressive transition and it can happen at any age!

It’s something I’ve not thought about much and not spoken to anyone before about. After the session, I was chatting to my friends and mentioned it to my mum who opened up about her own experience. The workshop made menopause feel less taboo and that it's OK to talk about.

My mum didn’t in fact know much about it when I went home and chatted about what I’d learned. I was able to say to her that “I’m here for you when it happens for you.”
